Starship is built with a 100% Kevlar fuselage.  Strong as a baseball bat, there are no stronger fuses in the industry.  Rocks beware!

  • Solid Core Wings: Hollow molded might be more profitable, but nothing beats the abuse a solid core wing can take.
  • High Load 60 Cores: We clipped the top of a tree and the plane turned into a high speed frisbee into the ground.  Compression failure of the top skin but the wing was still perfectly straight and supported a very firm load test, so we kept flying... for the rest of last season!
  • Efficiency: Highest aspect ratio wings in this size model.  Laminar flow airfoils.
  • Skate Ramps: Strong verticals combined with good low speed control means these planes can turn and burn in the tightest of spots.  Don't let the 90" span fool you!  We fly these planes in the smallest of places.

Steps to Finish our Planes

Glue Wing TogetherFive minute epoxy and a strip of fiberglass with laminating resin.

Mount Wing and StabA few minutes with some thickened 30 min. epoxy or laminating resin.

Stretched Starling

Starship takes the 7" x 5" chord planform of the 60" original Starling and stretches it to 90".  The plane goes from an aspect ratio of 10 with a 60" span to an aspect ratio of 15!  With only 1/2 again longer wing panels, the plane doesn't feel that much larger in the air in terms of manuevers it can perform.  Roll rate is of course a little slower, but by no means ponderous like a 3M plane, and in fact we will throw the 90" plane around in a tiny space right in front like we would any of our smaller slopers.

Range Farther

1/2 again better aspect ratio means an algebraic increase in efficiency.  Starship can range far at a high cruising speed.   Aspect ratio 15 at this span is the ideal combination for an inland sloper that can play on the slope up close but can also range away from the ridge at high speed to cover some serious territory looking for lift.  Sure TD planes can range far, but at a much slower speed, taking forever to get around.  Starship covers some sky!
